COMPOSITION

Westchester Book Group’s composition divisions handle the typesetting needs of a diverse group of clients. Trade and mass market composition work is the specialty of Westchester Book Composition, while academic, reference, educational, and professional composition are the core business of Binghamton Valley Composition. Our offshore keyboarding operation in St. Lucia, West Indies, handles file conversion, disk editing, and double keyboarding.

Westchester Book Composition

Founded in 1969 in Westchester County, New York, Westchester Book Composition primarily serves the typesetting needs of trade and mass market publishing companies in New York City. In 1987 the company was purchased by Rainsford Type, an academic and professional book compositor, and relocated just across the state line in Danbury, Connecticut. Currently, we employ over 90 trained professionals in the areas of markup, Quark and Penta page layout, graphics, and proofing. Our focus continues to be in the trade market, for which we typeset over 2,500 new titles annually.

Binghamton Valley Composition

Purchased in 1997 from the Maple-Vail Book Manufacturing Group, this facility is now our primary center for composition of educational and professional books. We handle projects from simple monographs to highly complex reference titles, technical manuals, and 4-color textbooks. Located in Binghamton, New York, this facility has a staff of over 30 employees.

Windward Ltd.

We manage our own offshore keyboarding operation, to ensure that double keyboarding, disk editing, file conversion, and XML tagging can be done quickly and accurately. The facility is located on St. Lucia, one of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. Work is transferred back and forth electronically, and our 200 operators are specifically trained to handle keyboarding and coding for book composition.
