KEYBOARDING/CODING
Most of the keyboarding, disk correction, and coding processes for our two composition divisions is handled by our offshore keyboarding operation in St. Lucia. Because of our large staff and electronic transmission, we have the capacity to turn our work around in 24 hours, enabling us to meet even the tightest turnarounds to first-pass pages.
We work equally well with projects edited on paper, on disk, or a combination of the two. Our goal is to maintain the highest level of accuracy (99.999%) at this critical point in the process, as well as to ensure that the tagging will enable us to paginate to the customer’s exacting specifications. Double keyboarding/file comparison is used to verify that we have achieved the quality that our clients expect.
Prior to keyboarding or disk editing, all new work is carefully reviewed for coding and editing requirements by our inhouse markup departments. Unless the customer supplies specific directions, we use basic coding which conforms to the principles of well-formed XML, which can later be validated against Westchester Book’s own DTD or translated to conform to a customer’s DTD. Our coding is designed to give us the greatest amount of flexibility when the files are used for page makeup.
We can also handle conversion of legacy material from a variety of formats, including typewritten pages, to HTML, XML, OeB, or other customer-specified coding.
